Lydia Galton, GNL Class X and current president of the League of Women Voters of Collier County, has been elected to the board of the LWV of Florida. Regarding her involvement, Lydia states, “I have come to realize that democracy is not something one can take for granted, but a fragile concept that requires serious effort to maintain. In the current climate of partisan distortions and exaggerations, the League is one of the few nonpartisan groups that can be counted on for an honest assessment of a situation. I am proud that the following GNL graduates also serve on the LWVCC board: Tom McCann, Class IX, Donna Suddeth, Class XIII, Vi Steffan, Class XIII, Mollie Ottina,Class III, John Levy, Class XII, and Linda Penniman, Class VII.”
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, has fought since 1920 to improve our systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy. The League’s enduring vitality and resonance comes from its unique decentralized structure. It is a grassroots organization, working at the national, state and local levels.
