Community Service Fair
Tuesday February 12, 2008
4 to 7 p.m.
Edison College Collier Campus | |
| Dear Member,
The GNL Community Service Fair Organizing Committee has been working hard on the upcoming Fair, to be held on Tuesday, February 12, at Edison College's Collier Campus from 4 to 7 p.m. Whether your visit is long or short, you will not want to miss this event! This Fair is a big step for GNL, as we reach out to local agencies and key members of the community, helping our exhibitors find volunteers and offering stimulating panels for the agencies and our invitees to attend. (Sessions are described in detail later in the newsletter.) Of course, no GNL gathering is complete without FUN, and we have planned for that too. In addition to food and wine, we are excited to have Bob Zottola's jazz duo as well as Music for Minors (a string quartet of high school students). The last--and most important--ingredient is YOU! Please plan to be there, and we encourage you to bring your spouse, friends, fellow volunteers of groups in which you are involved, etc. Think especially about those who might be looking for a new volunteer commitment . . . but also remember that even those who feel "tapped out" will be excited about our three educational sessions. AND please consider helping the groups that you volunteer with in staffing their exhibits so that they are able to attend the panel discussions too. We look forward to welcoming you to our Fair on February 12! Sincerely, The Community Service Fair Organizing Committee |

Spotlight on the exhibitors
Who will be there? Of the nearly 70 nonprofits exhibiting at our Fair, almost 40 are in the health and human services arena, 20 more are involved in education or arts/culture, and several others are focused on civic concerns or environment. You will easily find your way to the agencies that most interest you as we'll provide you with a "locater guide" when you enter Building J of Edison College's Collier Campus.
Come early, talk to the nonprofits that interest you most and volunteer to help staff an exhibiting agency that you are involved with so that staff members are able to check out the educational sessions or network with other agencies.

We're not the only ones excited about the upcoming GNL Community Service Fair! Here are some of the exhibitors' comments about the upcoming February 12 event, taken from a recent survey sent to them:
- "GNL alumni are fantastically prepared for community service and are known to be excellent board members. Immokalee Nonprofit Housing would not be where it is today without the GNL alumni who serve on our board. We need help in growing our board and committees and would love to interest a few more members in getting involved with us."
- "Relationship-building is key to all of our efforts. To accomplish our mission and meet the needs of those we serve, we must have more community partners."
- "I was involved in the 'first' community service fair at Boys and Girls Club (Class XI event) and know that the nonprofits involved received tremendous feedback."
- "This is a great opportunity to match your members with an interest in children to our organization. I look forward to participating this year!"
